Sorry. I feel so sorry we don't remember it and commemorate it. Around 500.000 Ethiopian, including children, monks, and other civilians, killed by Italians to colonize the land... Today the forgotten anniversary.

Thanks to the beautiful photo Ethiopia 2021 © Igor Barbero/MSF

Riding on the right bank of the Tiber River to the mouth you will see the waters dividing. We will have to follow the artificial canal called Fiumicino that gives also the name to the municipality close to Rome and it's airport. Before arriving to the old village we will visit the Episcope with it's amazing story! If you want to know more go on our website, on the blogpage there is a whole article about it.

Lazio is the most unknown region of Italy, It is believed that Latium is Rome and everyone knows Rome ... But Latium is so unknown ... is a beautiful region
and mysterious, as ancient as the universe and the human race. Do not

We are in the #archeological area of #Otricoli, 90km or 55 miles away from #Rome. On the right you see a part of the ruins of the #baths ascribable to the middle of the lI century A.D. The care for the #thermae in late times testifies the importance that the thermal building had in the social life of the #ancient #RomanCity.
On the left side you can admire the gigantic #substructions that might have supported one of the main #sanctuaries of #Latium region.
Some of the best preserved and impressive piece of art that were found here are kept inside the #VaticanMuseums.

Part of my upcoming project Thybris River Experience, I dedicated this area to the the ancient God Godness (Bona Dea), so powerful and ancient that you couldn't mention or know her real name. She was the Mother Nature. Today my path along the Regina Ciclarum (i.e. Queen of the cycling paths) goes on #MonteSoratte with a stop in #Sant'Oreste.

#Graffignano is a lovely #ItalianTown, in Italian #borgo, with a #MedievalCastle open to the public. Besides being part of my project #ThybrisRiverExperience on August 13th and 14th, #2022 you can assist at "A lume di Lumaca" i.e. At the Snail light. Inside the #traditionalFeast dedicated to the traditional dishes with #snails the town turns off the electric #lights of the old center and the population lights #candles all over making different #lightdesigns and compositions.

Yes, what you're looking at are exactly two #baboons, painted in memory of a gift to #PaulIII, the first Pope of the #counterreformation, brought by foreign #ambassadors.
In fact, we are in the #PaolinaRoom of #CastelSantAngelo, the #diplomacy room in the papal apartment.
Perin del Vaga and his team of #artists decorated it from 1545 to 1547.
The baboons are surrounded by Alexander the Great's, the emperor Hadrian's, Archangel San Michael's and San Paul's stories giving us a sample of the #Renaissance's irony and diplomacy!

Welcomed at the #SpanishSteps!
So-called because a guy got lost in translation and crashed the proper name of the underlying #square and the one of the monumental #Steps to the #Church #Trinity of the Mountains.
The #stairs were build only in 18th century and financed by the French King from whom the church and its beautiful monastery were depending.
#PiazzaDiSpagna owns its name to the historical embassy of Spain to the Holy See.
As soon as they were build they got filled with girls from the southern region of Ciociaria selling #flowers.
Today only in this period of the year the Steps are covered of beautiful plants of #Azalea reminding the #colourful meeting of people of different regions and social classes in one of the #mostExpensive quarter of #Rome.

The #Babington room was founded in 1893 by Isabel Cargill and Anna Maria Babington, two English ladies of good family who came to Rome with the intention of opening a #tea and #readingRoom for the Anglo-Saxon community, when tea could still be purchased only at the pharmacy.

Still managed today by the family of Isabel Cargill, Babington is synonymous with the art of serving #EnglishTea in accordance with the most rigorous #tradition, offering its customers a menu full of sweet and savory #delicacies.

In addition to a selection of the best teas and infusions from all over the world, you can buy in the boutique: Babington's personalized tea sets, pastries, ceramics and the exclusive range seven teas of #Rome, inspired by the different highlights of the #eternalCity.

In the middle of #Rome inside the Palace of the Roman College, build in 16th century, there is an old beautiful library.

The palace was chosen because of its importance and its position as the seat of the Biblioteca Nazionale Vittorio Emanuele II, designed and built by Ruggero Bonghi, the Minister of Education (1874-1876).

On that occasion, it was built from scratch the Reading Room, which runs parallel to the longitudinal arm of the Crociera library. It was a reworkingof a design by the architect, Jacopo Barozzi da Vignola, according to the project Engineer Francesco Bongioannini .

There were gathered the huge collections of books, manuscripts and incunaboli monastery libraries of the 60 forfeited by the Italian State. The room, set up initially for consultation only at the bottom, it was later modified by the adaptation of the eighteenth-century wooden shelves of the library of Portuguese father from Fonseca Ebora, from the Franciscan convent of Santa Maria in Ara Coeli, convent then sacrificed to the construction of the Vittoriano building on Venice Square.

On the footsteps of an Italian actor and Latin lover I got across this hotel. Staying in the heart of Rome is a unique experience, in fact confirmed sources narrate that the area in which it currently stands the structure has been spectator over years of historical events; starting from 74 B.C. with the magnificence of the Horti Luculliani, passing through the innovative urban project of Pope Sisto V, that placed Via Sistina as the first direct connection between Pincio and Santa Maria Maggiore Basilica, at the beginning of the 20th century the "Strada Felice" welcomed one of the first inns in the area of the current "The Code Hotel".
Every detail in these historical buildings deserves to be discovered piece by piece giving a new light to shapes and fragments that show the transformation of the building over time, becoming a code of interpretation of the city history over the centuries.

In the 1700s, Scottish doctor #GeorgeCleghorn discovered that quinine could treat #malaria.
By the 1800s, #BritishSoldiers stationed in India were drinking #gin (or any available #alcohol) and tonic to get their daily dose of #quinine, which is the active ingredient in tonic water, to prevent malaria.
“The #GinandTonic #drink has saved more Englishmen’s lives, and minds, than all the doctors in the Empire,” Winston #Churchill once said.
For sure in the last troublesome years G&T chilled some minds out and #Rome is not left behind in the international competition between #GinBars.
Look how nice and how much care has been put in the #G&T of the picture prepared in @caffedoria with a #rose and a curly slice of #cucumber. It's a pity I appreciate the #aesthetic, the design and it was a pleasant experience but still prefer a good #glass of wine.

It's nine o'clock in Rome and waiting my guests I listen to the noise of water and admire this #masterpiece: the #MoorFountain.

I'm at the southern end of #PiazzaNavona in front of #palazzoPamphili, today the #BrasilianEmbassy.

It shows a muscular #Ethiopian standing in a #conchShell #wrestling with a #dolphin and surrounded by #Tritons, all in a basin of antique rose-colored #marble. The fountain was originally designed in 1575 by #GiacomoDellaPorta, the genius of #RomanFountains, during the reign of Pope Gregory XIII #Boncompagni. He planned the dolphin and the beautiful Tritons blowing #water out through shells.

In 1653, Pope Innocent X #Pamphilj asked #GianLorenzoBernini to add the statue of the #Moor in the center. Bernini designed that sculpture, but it was actually sculpted by Giannantonio Mari.

During a #restoration of the fountain in 1874, the original statues were moved to a small square in Villa Borghese and replaced with #copies made by Luigi Amici.

When I've to give an #officialPhoto of me I would love to get an unique #specialShot just for it. But, I'm a difficult subject... and #selfies are not my thing!
In spite of it, Rome can always surprise me and when I was not even thinking about a nice shot, taking advantage of the beautiful light, there it is.
Before a #cityTour, in the early morning, before the #Pantheon and its gorgeous #barock #fountain, the background is the real subject: the #beautyofRome.
