We are in the perspectives Hall on the second floor of the #Renaissance #villa par excellence. What you're seeing it's painted: a #colonnade overlooking the district of #Trastevere in early #sixteenthCentury with buildings you would have seen back then if a real #arcade would have let you. It was designed by #BaldassarrePeruzzi that made also the overall project as architect. Some of those buildings are still there and you can play looking from the nearby window and recognize them in the #frescoes.

This hall is actually under #restoration and I'm already excited of what the scholars might have discovered. Last time they could highlight some historical graffiti.

#VillaFarnesina is today the official seat of #AccademiaDeiLincei, founded in #1603. It is the oldest scientific #academy in the world, counts among its first members even Galileo Galilei and represents the greatest #Italian cultural Institution.

I do love to guide my guests throughout the first years of high Renaissance in #Rome and tell the incredible stories that hide behind the gardens, the architecture and these paintings, and proud to be somehow part of the history of this institution as ambassador.

In the middle of Rome you can stumble upon Casa Bonadies.

It is a palace restaured in the 40s, it's made by three floors and a loggia. It's in via del Banco di #SantoSpirito looking at the bridge of #SantAngelo.

The #portico with #recycled #ionic #medieval #columns and a frieze is breathtaking!

If you reached the Basilica of #StPeter to attend the #PopeAudience, the #AngelusPrayer, mass or you just came to admire the biggest #CatholicChurch in the world and one of the most impressive buildings ever built independently of your religious beliefs, before you leave the #StPeterSquare don't forget to admire the two twin #fountains, perfectly aligned with the Obelisk in the middle of the #elliptical space.

The right one, the one you're looking in the picture, has been designed first, in #1613 by #CarloMaderno.
Fifty years later was moved and matched with a similar one in a magical symmetry by the #mysterious #genius of Gianlorenzo Bernini.

I hope you like the #atmosphere caught in the shot and you enjoy the different lights and #waterGames.

This Scala, called #SimonettiStaircase brings you from the Hall of the Greek Cross to the upper #galleries, connecting the lower floor of the section called #MuseoPioClementino with the gallery of the Candelabra.

It's one of the most beautiful architecture of the #VatcanMuseums but most travellers distracted by rare sarcofagi and their amazing stories, Egyptian icons and Roman sculptures don't notice the structure beauty and its details.

It's a double staircase, raised on twenty-two #columns of red and white #granite: its steps are marble, its balustrade bronze. The #capitals are decorated with the #coatOfArms of the #PopePiusVI. It represents a #windPersonification that blows on a #lilies

#2021 is gone and I left my beloved eternal city to reach the #Appennine #mountains and walk in the #nature.

We took the train and reach #LAquila ( 135 km i.e. 84mi. from Rome) in with our bicycles.

We rode along the #MarsicanBear path for 15km ( i.e. 9.3mi.) up to #monasterofortezzadisantospirito which is a fortified monastery of 13th century, a state monument since 1902 and also an amazing hotel.

I walked on the footsteps of the ancient Roman city of #Aveia to discover new stories. Here there are the ruins of a Roman aqueduct, a Mytreum cave, a Roman road, there are grottos excavated by a river but especially there are many medieval fortifications.

In this picture I'm standing on the ruins of the fortified #castleOfOcre looking at the mountain #GranSasso down to the #AternoValley.

The #Pyramid has a heart of #pozzolana and it's entirely covered of precious #CarraraMarble. The moonshine color gave in #antiquity this #marble the name "lunense" from lat. "luna" which it means moon.

As I previously wrote it is the monumental #tomb of #GaiusCestius, politician and member of the religious corporation of the Septemviri Epulonum, that were responsible of public banquets.

On the pyramid we can read a #LatinInscription where
Cestius required his #heirs to erect the
#funeralMonument within 330 days, otherwise they
would lose the #wealthy inheritance! It was completed
between 18 and 12 BC.

It's an artificial hill formed exclusively from the #fragments or #shards which in Latin are testae. That's where the hill and district name come from: #Testaccio.

It's calculated that are the fragments of 25 millions of #amphorae used for the transportation of #oliveOil for #publicDistribution that came almost exclusively from the province of #Betica, today's #Andalusia.

Those #containers were disembarked in #RomanTimes in the nearby river port and after being unloaded were crashed and piled up with lime to prevent bed smells. It's calculated that the hill took was build between the #Augustan period and the middle of the third century AD. In fact doing to their content, you could not reuse these amphorae as containers. You could use the shares to waterproof pozzolana (Roman concrete) but the request was not so high to absorb the massive amount imported.

The Mount is 54 meters above sea level and a perimeter of about one kilometer (0.62 miles). It has been excavated through the centuries to make #wineCellars but it was use also as target for military exercises.

Today, the ex wine cellars became restaurants, bars, discos, garages and workshops but the hill counts as important #historical source on the food habits and the commercial development of Ancient #Rome. In fact, on some of those shards there are trademarks, tituli picti, or brush-written notes in which different information are indicated.

With this picture I brought you inside a 150 hectare port basin of #imperialAge.
In particular, we would be in the water in front of the norden #RomanDock of the two curved #piers faced by a multi-storey #lighthouse.

The lighthouse, made to recall the mythical #AlexandriaPharos, on a tiny artificial island between the 2 piers, divided so the main access in a northern and a southern one.

The #emperorClaudius started, in 42 AD, the construction of this massive #imperialHarbour about 3 km north from the #TiberRiver mouth, to solve the problems related to the silting up of #OstiaÔÇÖs riverbanks.

The #emperorNero completed it in 64 AD: the new harbour was part of the seaside infrastructures serving #Rome with the river harbour of Ostia and the maritime port of #Pozzuoli, that suppied the capital with grain since the 2nd century BC.

This massive project guaranteed a safe basin for the unloading of large cargo ships, called in Latin "naves onerariae", arriving from across the #Mediterranean, and for the transfer of wares to "naves caudicariae" which were smaller Roman barges sailing up the Tiber River to Rome.

We are here on the backside of the #MuseoDelleNavi di #Fiumicino were you can admire some rests of real #RomanShips found just in front of you!

The story of this district starts to host one of those temporary international #expositions where the different nations at the beginning of #20thcentury competed to show their best technologies. But it starts also with a strong #propaganda led personally by #BenitoMussolini to reground a #thirdRome that would arrive to the seaside and from there would expand to be an #empire again.

For this reason, for the first time in such events, a real new #neighborhood was erected to stay: the new architecture style called #rationalism betrayed its principle to be #monumental and celebrate the #history of the #ancientRomanEmpire.

The #secondWorldWar stopped the planning and works for the exposition that supposed to be held in #1942. The buildings were finished slowly in the twenty years after the war giving Rome an eternal and metaphorical memory of that period. Can we go today behind that charming appearance to grasp the historical meaning of it?

On the right you can see the dome of the #BasilicaDeiSantiPietroEPaolo while on the left you have the #PalaceOfItalianCivilization, also nicknamed #SquaredColosseum

In #Rome, close to #ViaVeneto, you can run into a villa that belonged to the #BoncompagniLudovisi family: a small #jewel for its architecture and for its contents. The building, designed in 1901 by architect Giovanni Battista Giovenale and commissioned by #Prince Luigi Boncompagni Ludovisi, is an expression of the early twentieth century taste defined as #RomanBarochetto, in which different expressions of #Liberty are mixed.

The Boncompagni Ludovisi villa has become a museum dedicated to #decorativeArts, #costume and #fashion of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries thanks to the will of #Princess Blanceflor de Bildt who already in 1970 donated the property with the furnishings to the Italian state by testamentary will for artistic-cultural public utility after her death.

Here we are on the ground floor, in the Room of the cradle of the #Savoia Princes. The #wallpaper with birds and racemes is French from 19th century and the wonderful #clock, with the same #decorative elements, reminds us that the time is flying.

Another casino of the family will be soon sold at an auction with its unmeasurable treasures. The Italian state could exercise preemption...

Tired of new #oracles?
50km from Rome there is the largest and most important architectural complex in ancient Italy: the #Sanctuary of the #Goddess #Fortune, built in the 2nd century BC. and probably following the #Hellenistic influence with its particular construction of artificial terraces.

Numerous artifacts have been found to testify that in these terraces there were shops that sold #votive offerings and #amulets.

According to some scholars, the origin of the Sanctuary could be older enough to date it around the IV century BC. built by citizens, enriched by the war against Sulla, to #ingratiate #CaioMario.

A kid representing #Jupiter the Child was lowered into a well and had the task of delivering the offerings to the oracle inside it with the requests of the #prophesy.

Inside the today-museum, among numerous wonderful artifacts, found in what remains of the sanctuary, you can admire the marble head of the Fortune Goddess found inside the well of the Hemicycle Terrace. If she is not able to influence #Fate at least you made an incredible journey in human #magic and #mysterious past.

#PalazzoBarberini yesterday.
What you're looking at it's a painting of 1625 circa. We are still searching for its author but the confidential look of the young beautiful boy, probably a #cardSharper charms everyone.
